Do you need to convert your Sharp UP-700 to a new cash register or POS system?

Are you still using a Sharp UP-700 Cash Register?

We used to sell and support quite a few UP-700 registers but they have not been made in over five years. If you are still using one you might want to make the switch to a new modern SAM4s register as soon as you can. We do hear from users all the time that have waited until it is too late. Don't let that happen to you. The SAM4s model SAP-630F is a superior system that has many features the Sharp does not have. One of the huge features the SAM4s has that the Sharp does not is the ability to integrate with EMV pin pads. If you are ready to make the move to a modern solution give us a call at 800-863-2274 or online at The Sharp UP-700 Replacement

Can't find a Sharp ER-A520?

The Sharp ER-A520 cash register is no longer available. As you may know Sharp is getting out of the commercial cash register business in the USA. If you are looking for a cash register like the ER-A520 I recommend the SAM4s ER-945 register pictured above with the optional expanded keyboard.

The ER-945 has a receipt and journal printer, 21 buttons, 5 bill 5 coin cash drawer with media slots, optional credit card interface, optional gift card interface, optional bar code scanner and much more.

To help figure out if this is a good machine for you call us at 1-800-863-2274

Sharp ER-A347 cash register review

Sharp ER-A347
Sharp ER-A347
The Sharp ER-A347 cash register is a fresh new design for Sharp. At first glance it is very sleek looking and has a beautiful operator display.

Looking further the first thing that I became a little worried over is the fact it does not have a key or a mode lock (it does for cash drawer). After digging into how it works my fears we resolved and the model button works great and you can still have a level of security.

Some things I really like about the ER-A347 that you won't find in other low cost registers
  • The multi line LCD display make programming and reporting much better compared to other registers. Also make the cashier's job easier because they can see the sale and subtotal on the display as they ring items in.
  • This register has an SD card port allowing for back up and saving program
  • You can use the SD card to take the register data to a PC and even interface into Quick  Books
  • Department shift keys are nice to allow so many departments on the keyboard
  • Features traditional receipt and journal
  • Optional Credit Card interface (also see notes in the CON list too)
OK here is the CON list
  • Although it has a credit card interface it is not the traditional credit card interface cash registers have been using for 5+ years using the Datacap. This register interfaces with a standard style credit card terminal and still requires using both the register and the terminal.
  • The PC interface is only through the use of the SD card instead of a direct connection. Keep in mind in most small machines people don't use this feature anyhow but if you do you may not like it.

Overall I like this machine, it is easy to program, lots of useful features and great price. If you would like to order this register call us at 1-800-863-2274

Does the Sharp ER-A320 have anything in common with the SAM4s ER-650

What do the Sharp ER-A320 and the SAM4s ER-650 have in common? They were both the best selling cash registers for their brand and they have both been retired.

In the case of the SAM4s ER-650 it has been replaced by the SPS-300 series which is made up of the following

The SAM4s SPS-320 cash register with large flat keyboard and single station printer. Capable of credit card interface with Datacap Twin Tran

The SAM4s SPS-340 also features large flat keyboard with the addition of a receipt and journal printer. Also the ability to integrate credit card payments with a Datacap device

The SAM4s SPS-345 is the retail version of the SPS-300 series with a raised keyboard and receipt and journal (not picture shown is with the expanded keyboard not the standard 21) this register works great for liquor stores, hardware, gift stores, C-Stores and more. You can add value added options such as scanning and credit card interface.

Now returning back the Sharp ER-A320 cash register which we miss dearly, there really is no replacement. yes there are new models but not a comparable replacement. The problem is the A320 used bond paper and was capable of validating . Sharp currently DOES NOT make a cash register that can validate or used bond paper rolls instead of thermal. If you don't need to validate then the closest choice to replace in the Sharp line is:

The Sharp ER-A347 featuring a large 8 line LCD display, receipt and journal printers. This is a great machine and I think easy to program because of the 8 line LCD display however some find it cumbersome. I think you will need to be the judge on that!

This is way you should interface your cash register directly with credit card payments

I read a great article this morning about a customer being over charged by $1600.00 at a breakfast house restaurant. Of course the error was found and fixed after several days and with a lot of bad publicity.

If this restaurant would have had their cash register interfaced to the credit card machine this error probably would have never happened. When you integrate the two you eliminate the need to re-enter the sale into the credit card machine where so many errors occur.

Now in this case the error was found quickly because it was so large. Also when a customer is overcharged they are more likely to point it out maybe even days or weeks later when they receive their statements. What happens when they are undercharged? Most say nothing at all and you lose money! Don't let this happen any longer, interface your cash register to credit card payments!

There are two lines of cash registers that are also credit card machines and they are SAM4s and Sharp both making a wide variety of machines for every type of business.

Here is the story in the news, you should check it out yourself http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/oddnews/waffle-house-charges-man-over--1600-for-breakfast-194502721.html?soc_src=copy

Using a cash register in your business

Don't use your cash register as just a money box. If used correctly a cash register can improve your bottom line by quite a bit while saving you time.

When I go shopping if there is a long line at the cashier and I don't need the item that second I leave and I would avoid that store in the future. Don't let this happen to you, speed up your lines! How you may ask? Well number one is a bar code scanner if you are a retail store, or a large keyboard if food service. Both of these items speed up lines and improve accuracy. Do you want your cashier to enter prices and make all those mistakes and double or triple the time it takes to check out? If you don't think it is important then time it yourself, audit a couple hours of sales to see how accurate your cashiers were.

Integrate your cash register with credit card payments directly! Don't make your cashiers ring up the sale, go to another machine and enter the amount, wait for the processing, go back to the register and finalize the sale. Holy cow you have now made the process so much longer then it needed to be and opened yourself up to massive errors! Don't believe me then audit your cash register and the credit card machine. How many sales for $19.99 were entered into the credit card machine at $0.99 or $9.99 or $0.09 Our customers that have taken our challenge and audited have all integrated the payments and never looked back! When you interface a cash register with payments directly you force accuracy, your ensure the item is registered, you know the sale was settled correctly and you saved massive amounts of time! Both Sharp and SAM4s make cash registers that interface with the Datacap twin Tran. After the interface is done you will have a cash register that accepts credit cards directly saving time and forcing accuracy.

There are many more ways to use a register more efficiently and if you would like to discuss how we can help you with a commercial grade quality cash register call us at 1-800-863-2274 and we would be happy to consult with you.

Sharp cash registers that interface to cerdit card payments

cash register credit card interface
How a cash register credit card interface works
Sharp has several great cash register that interface directly to credit card payments using the Datacap Twin Tran or other Tran models. The reason to interface your cash register directly to credit card payments is accuracy and speed not to mention a massive reduction in fraud.

When you add a Datacap Twin Tran to you Sharp cash register you create a complete system that is designed to make more profit! Isn't that why you got into business, to make a profit? So when you don't integrate your cash register you make it easy for cashiers to run a credit card for $2.95 instead of the $29.95 the sale really was! even if cashiers aren't trying to steal they make mistakes when re-keying an amount into another machine. If you have a busy store I challenge you to audit your receipts from the cash register and match them up with the transactions from your credit terminal. Do they match? Does the cash register say one amount and the daily batch have another? If you are busy and have a medium to high volume then you will find mistakes and probably lots of them!

If you are looking to interface you cash register with credit card payments then call us at 1-800-863-2274 we have been installing cash registers that process credit cards for over ten year.

How to reprogram your Datacap Twin Tran or other Tran product

Datacap Twin Tran and how it works
Datacap Twin Tran Flow Chart
Most cash registers that interface to credit card payments use a Datacap Twin Tran, IPTran, or Dial Tran. If you need to have your new merchant services programmed into your Datacap we can help. First you will need to decide on which merchant services company you want to go with. We have several good companies we work with all the time if you need a reference. If you already know who you are going to use you can call us with a couple pieces of information.

  • The Serial Number of the Datacap Twin Tran (or Tran product you have)
  • The Var Sheet from your merchant services
  • Make and model of cash register you will be connecting to
  • How many cash registers you will be connecting to.
There are a few things we will need answered in order to process the order and get your Datacap reprogrammed. Here are some things that should be answered

  • Do you accept Tips?
  • Do you accept EBT
  • Do you accept PIN based debit transactions?
All these items are very important when selecting the platform your Datacap device should be programmed with.

Now a few environmental issues to figure out

  • Do you want to use a High Speed IP connection
  • Do you want to use a dial up connection
  • Would you like to use both?
  • If IP can you run a patch cable from Datacap device to router?
If you need help navigating the steps of installing a Datacap TwinTran on your cash register we can help. We can even help connecting you to a merchant processor that will supply you with a low cost Datacap if you need one. Give us a call at 1-800-863-2274

Sharp cash registers that process credit cards

We continue to experience great success installing Sharp cash registers with credit card readers built in. When the Sharp cash register is combined with the Datacap Twin Tran or other Datacap product turns your system into a complete solution saving you time and money.

Many of the Sharp registers will interface to credit card payments as well as gift cards. The question we also get is will the SAM4s process with Brand X processor like First Data, Chase, or other big brand names. The simple answer is yes in every case I have seen in the last 5 years we can interface with all the major networks.

Get ready for the holiday sales season

Make the most of the holiday sale season by making sure your POS or cash register system is suitable to handle more customers while keeping your money secure! A poorly designed cash register system does not stop error entry mistakes and does little to stopping cashiers from helping themselves to your hard earned money.

What are some of the steps you can take to improve your business and security?
  • Add another cash register or POS terminal so you can get customers moved through the line! I for one will leave if store lines are long and most often will avoid that store in the future
  • Interface your cash register and credit card payments to stop entry errors and cashiers stealing from you.
  • Implement bar code scanning if you can it's faster and improved pricing accuracy.

Will my cash register process credit cards?

Today most cash register can take credit cards directly which is the most secure and efficient way to operate.

When you interface credit card payments directly to a cash register you benefit in many ways. First and foremost you will all but eliminate entry errors in the payment field. When you have not interfaced payments to the register you run the risk of a cashier entering the sale into the credit card terminal incorrectly. As an example lets say the sale total is $19.95 and the cash enters $9.95 or $0.95 on the credit card machine. You just lost all of your profit and then some. If you don't believe those happens then you should audit your cash register transactions to your credit card transactions. It may take you a couple hours but it could also show you how you are losing thousands of dollars due to entry error.

Another pleasant side effect of interfacing payments directly to the cash register is reducing fraud. It has long been a practice of bad cashiers not to register credit card transactions on the cash register but enter them on the credit card machine. Then when they have a cash transaction for the same amount they ring that one up and close out to credit card and then pocket the cash from the transaction they did not ring up. The register will still balance! But when you have an interfaced system the cashiers can't run a credit card without first ringing up a sale for the correct amount.

Sharp ER-A410 in short supply! Make that NO SUPPLY!

Sharp ER-A410 cash register
Sharp ER-A410 cash register

The Sharp ER-A410 cash register has been a best seller now for quite awhile. Currently (July, 2013) however the Sharp ER-A410 cash register is on back order from the Sharp company. I have tried every distributor we know of in the US and everyone is sold out. Everyone we have spoken to regarding this problem claims that Sharp will have more in the US in mid to late September. Given this news should you need another ER-A410 in the short term you will either have to wait it out or switch to a different model or even a different make?

In the Sharp family there are a couple choices. The first is the Sharp ER-A347 cash register which comes out of the box with 20 departments, has both a receipt and journal printer and a nicer display than the ER-A420 register. The ER-A347 can not have a Datacap Twintran credit card interface like the A420. The A347 also used 2.25" thermal paper instead of 44mm thermal like the 420.

The next choice is the Sharp ER-A520 cash register, little larger then the A410, receipt and journal, standard 2 line display, large cash drawer and will interface with the Datacap Twin Tran.

You can also look at the SAM4s brand of cash registers which have lots of very popular models. Need help selecting a replacement model? call us at 1-800-863-2274

Where to buy a good Sharp Cash Register

Sharp Cash Registers
Sharp Cash Registers
First thing to remember before you buy a Sharp cash register is that they make two different lines. The first is the consumer grade disposable grade XE models. In most cases do not buy an XE model if you want a durable commercial grade cash register. The heavy duty commercial grade cash register line starts with either an ER or a UP for example a Sharp ER-A420 is a popular machine in the ER line.

All most all of the ER and UP models can interface to credit card payments with the Datacap Twin Tran, have optional computer interface, kitchen printers, bar code scanners and more.

There are some great places online to buy your register from
